Stated by Sergeant M. Farrell to be a victim of. circumstances in that she was associating with a criminal well known to the police, Joyce Kathleen Keene, alias Harvey, alias, Burke, appeared before Messrs C. G. Lucas and G. R. Kent, J's'.P., at the local Court on Monday morning, and was ordered to come up foj sentence when called upon.

Sergeant Farrell stated that the '-woman was the victim of circumstances in that she was, he believed, married to a man who- was well known as a criminal to the police. The couple were being escorted from "Waihi to Whakatane oin Saturday -when the man escaped. It was known that the couple, had left Auckland •some four months ago and for some time had been in Hamilton. There was some mystery surrounding where the man had been for the time intervening his leaving Hamilton and "his arrival at Whakatane.

The woman had admitted that she had no fixed place of abode and also that she had slept out at Ohope. The Sergeant suggested that probably she would be alright if she had a place of abode and suggested that the Bench might just order her to come up for sentence if called upon so long as she did have an address. He stated that she had no moiney on her when arrested although it was known that her husband had some funds.

In reply to the Bench the accused stated that her people lived in Auckland and she was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon, a condition being laid down that she returned to her people in Auckland.
