FAREWELL DANCE

FUNCTION AT KING STREET HALL WELL ATTENDED EVENT Organised by the Borough Ladies Patriotic Committee a dance was held in the King Street Hall on Wednesday night to farewell four men on leave. The event was a most successful one with not only a large number of young couples being present. but also the older folk being well represented - His Worship the Mayor, Mr B. S.. Barry, the Deputy Mayor, Mr S. S. Shapley and Airs Shapley, Mr W Sullivan, M».P., and Mrs Sullivan and Mr K. Runciman, president of the local branch of the R.S.A.,wer« amongst those present. The guests of honour were Sgt. Pilot B. Clark. Sgt. Pilot M. Sullivan, Sgt. Pilot Farquhar, of the R.N.Z.A.F., and Signaller W. Shearer, R.N.Z.N,' The duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Mr T. Atkinson. During the evening valedictory addresses were delivered by the Mayor and Mr Runciman and Mrs Sullivan made presentations on behalf of the County and Borough Farewell Committee and the Borough Ladies Farewell Committee.
