SEQUEL TO COLLISION

ACCIDENT ON OHOPE ROAD

As a sequel to a collision which occurred on the Ohope Road on January 2 Geo. K. Kelly, a driver employed 1 by Johnson's Taxis, 'appeared before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., at the local court yesterday charged with driving without due care and attention. A plea of guilty was entered-and Sergeant M. Farrell stated t>hat Kelly was on the day of the accident driving a taxi with passengers to Ohope and collided with another car. Indications had been such that it was obviously the fault of the defendant that the impact had occurred. When interviewed Kelly had admitted that he had been driving on the wrong side and took all responsibilit}' for the accident. He had been driving for many years and had a clear record. A fine of £2 with 16s costs was Imposed. No Heavy Traffic Licence For driving a traffic vehicle which had no heavy traffic licence Alex 'Mcintosh was fined £2 with costs £1 13s on the information of the County Traffic Inspector. The defendant explained by letter that he used the truck to transport his own horses and when he questioned an inspector at Gisbornc was told that so long as he carried only one horse he would not require a heavy traffic licence.
