LOCAL BODY LABOURERS

At last week's meeting of the. County Council the clerk reported that the new award, Local Body Labourers' came into force on the sth January. The main alterations were as follows:— Temporary workers were now paid £4 12s 6d instead of £4 Us Bd. The hourly rate of 2/5 still stood. While Avorkers Ave re AAorking in wet places, such workers must be paid 9cl per da3 r in addition to ordinary rates. A Avet place means a place where workers arc standing in water or slush 3in or more in depth, or in A\ T ct concrete or Avhere water other than rain is dripping on them. Such places are not deemed to be wet places if the employer provides adequate overalls or gum boots or both. Where surfacemen are • required to work in Avet weather the employer must supply suitable oilskin raincoats. traA-elling time commenced tAA„o miles from the employer's depot. It is noAV provided lavo xniles from an agreed depot. Where a worker is required to camp for a period of less than one working week, the employer must provide him with board and lodging and cannot elcct to pay 5/2 per day camp allowance.
