THROWN FROM HORSE
SERIOUS INJURIES SUSTAINED BUSINESSMAN* While riding a young horse, Mr J. R. Whitfield, an Opotiki businessman, received serious injuries when the horse reared, throwing its rider heavily-on the ground. The accident occurred near the Otara Bridge and Mr Whitfield received a severe blow on the back o>f his neck when he hit the ground. The injured man was conveyed to the Opotiki Hospital suffering from a compressed fracture of the spine with involvement of the spinal cord. His condition was described as serious.
