CALEDONIAN SOCIETY'S

GESTURE

MRS F. E. BERRY HONOURED

A pleasing feature of the annual meeting of the Whakatane Caledonian Societ.y last Monday was the social gathering which took place at the conclusion of the ordinary business in honour of Mrs F. E. Berry, who leaves for Christchurcli on Wednesday (to-day).

Chief W. J. Simons referring to the services of Mrs Berry to the Society said that five years ago, she /iad accepted the position as secretary, and had thrown herself wholeheartedly into the work of organisation and building up. It was mainly due to her efforts that the Society found itself in such a sound position to-day. She had been untiring and most capable in all she had done and although all members regretted the circumstances which made her departure imperative they joined in wishing her the best of luck and happiness in her new .sphere. On behalf of members he then presented her with a handworked dressing table set.

On behalf of the Band Pipe Sgt. Patcrson then handed her a signed and autographed enlargement of the band group, while, a further photo of the executive was also presented Mrs Berry on behalf of hei colleagues.

Mrs Berry in response said that die left Whakatane with many regrets. She had always taken a great pride and interest in the Society, especially the band, which she had watched grow into the smart organisation it was to-day. She had made many good and lifelong friends and could say that her association with the society had been one of great happiness. She thanked all her friends for their kindness and goodwill and trusted that she would have occasional opportunities of seeing them in future.

Musical honours followed, aftei which the evening concludcd with the singing of Aukl Lang Syne.
