RUMOURS RIFE
FERTILISER RATIONING
BELIEF OF FARMERS INCORRECT
Rumours have been rife lately that the rationing of fertiliser is being unfairly handled, these being the result of farmers observing large consignments of
manure arriving by rail for native schemes in the Whakatane district.
These rumours were refuted by Mr J. R. Murray, Chairman of the Fertiliser Committee, to-day when he stated that Government Departments were not receiving any more fertiliser than that amount to which they were entitled. The position as far as the Native Department was concerned at Tc Teko and Onepu was that the whole year's allocation was ordered for immediate delivery. He also explained that the fact that serpentine super was being used meant that approximately one-third more was obtained.
Continuing Mr Murray said that in normal circumstances a considerable portion of these orders were taken in the autumn thereby spreading the deliveries over the yeai\ The: Lands and Survey Department had considerable areas of land at Onepu and also at Galatea and the same applied to their deliveries.
