FORTY PARADES

THE LOCAL PIPE BAND

PAST YEAR'S ACTIVITIES

In reviewing the activities of the Pipe Band, the Chief of the; Whakatane Caledonian Society in his annual report at the meeting last Monday said:—

The Society's band has never been in such demand as it has during the past year. Apart from practices, it has attended all the Society and Goodwill Inglesides, four Soldiers' farewells, four trips to Opotiki, one to Rotorua, two to the Winter Show, two to Home Guard parades, and several to lesser functions of a inore private nature. I' think I would be right in saying that there have been forty parades apart from practices. This is a record to be proud of.

lin itself the band has made excellent progress in spite of the members who have been lost through service oversells. The standard is excellent and from a smartness point of view I think we have every reason to' be proud. I must acknowledge here the donation of £10 from the Borough Council and at the same time tender my congratulations to Pipe Major Johnston and his officers. Drum-major's appointment-: During the year the band delegates sought and obtained permission to purchase a Drum-major's outfit. Most of the money needed has been raised and I am glad to welcome Drum-major McKenzie to the band.
