ARRANGEMENTS WITH P.W.D

FUTURE; CARE OF STRUCTURE

In a letter to the County Council received at yesterday's meeting the Minister of Public Works wrote as follows:'—

"In reply to your letter of the 29th October, I have to advise that my Department will put the deck ol the Ruatoki Bridge in order and will seal part of the approaches and the deck. Your Council will then be responsible for the maintenance of the sealed part of the approaches and the bridge.

My Department will be responsible for the rectification of any structural defects that may appear within say, the next five years, but it cannot be held responsible for the total replacement of the bridge, say. in fifty years time, or if the bridge is destroyed bv floods and not through any structural defects." The offer was accepted.
