Soldiers' Farewell Local soldiers on leave are to be farewelled at the Plunket Society's dance' to be held on Tuesday. A special feature of the even* will be a Monte Carlo dance for which the prize is 10/-. Home Nursing All candidates who sat for their Home Nursing examination at Manawalie were successful. Sullivan, National candidate was criticising the Hon. J. G. Barclay, Minister of Marketing, when the voice came — "Don't be hard on Mr Barclay—see what a wonderful job he made of the maize business!" Long Service "His record of public service speaks for itself," said Mr B. S. Barry, Mayor of Whakatane, when introducing Ma* W. Sullivan, National candidate on Tuesday evening. Mr Barry said Mr Sullivan had been a chairman of the Harbour Board for 13 years was Mayor and was still a Borough Councillor. "He is a resident of your town and a fellow citizen of 20 years standing who has given practically the whole of that time to public service," said His Worship.
