MANAWAHE EVENTS

PADDY'S MARKET

ENJOYABLE DAY

In spite of inclement weather conditions, Saturday's function drew an enthusiastic crowd. Brisk business was done at a splendidly stocked stall, the great variety of goods displayed providing an eloquent testimony to the generosity of the people of Manawahe.

Before lunch, which was provided and served canteen style by members of the Women's Institute, the public was entertained by the antics of a clown who afterwards passed among the crowd selling tickets for a raffle, the prize for which had been generosity donated by Miss M. Walker.

Following lunch members of the W.W.S.A. gave a demonstration of rhythmic exercises and a section of

the Home Guard a display of rifle drill. Both these exercises and also

the marching of the whole platoon gave evidence of careful and constant practice on the part the W.W.S.A. and Home Guard.

An auction sale of stock donated by Mr Eivers and Mr A. Rendall and a cord of wood cut by Mr G.

Logan proved very diverting as also did two competitions of chain stepping (won by Miss Leila Rendall) and goal potting (won by Mr L. Rendall).

A guessing competition for ft jar of chocolates donated by Mrs Kane, was Avon by Mr Jones, and all articles on the stall having been disposed of, afternoon tea Avas, served, bringing to a close a most successful day.
