WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

TE TEKO ANNIVERSARY PARTY HELD Recently the Te Teko branch of he Women's Division held their anmal birthday party and flower dismay in the local hall. A bright md colourful afternoon was enjoyed jy a large attendance of guests who fathered from far and near. All were welcomed by Mrs C. Elv;rs president) and the programme opened with the singing of the National Anthem, Mrs Tickner (Ota-m-i) acting as pianist. Miss liuia Park delighted all present with a tap dance, after which Pauline Davies, in her dainty manner tapped the waltz tap dance. A written competition, "Advertisements" followed and was won by Mrs Whiteside (Otakiri), and some of the local members then staged a humorous play, entitled "Waiting for the Train," which caused much amusement and delight. Musical arms was played each district having so many members taking part and resulted in Mrs Whiteside winning it for Otakiri. Two more graceful dances were performed by Miss Parle and Pauline Davies, and after a brief interval a sumptuous afternoon tea was served. Mrs Haultain (Awakeri) was called upon to cut the birthday cake, which was made and iced by Mr,si Eivers. 1 his year the branch was seven years old and in accordance there were seven •cupies decorating the cake. Mrs HaultainfUpokc on behalf of all present, and thanked the Te Teko members for the very happy afternoon one and all had spent. The "bring and buy" stall, in the capable hands of Mrs TV Smith and Mrs R. Harty, was heavily laden with produce and did good business, and the brilliant garden setting ot all kinds of flowers arranged by Miss S. Tebbutt was up to the standard of previous years. A competition of "Bobs," run throughout the afternoon was won by Mrs P. McDonald (Awakeri). BIRTHDAY AFTERNOON GATHERING AT TANEATUA f The 11th b'irthday of the Taneatu; Women's Institute was celebratec in the Taneatua Hall on Tuesdaj last, when a large gathering of visitors, friends and members were present. The president, Mrs J. Adams, extended a welcome to .all present, ant after the Institute song had beei: sung, there commenced a varied programme, which was much enjoyed. Items were rendered by the following: Solo, Mrs N. Garter; Dance Irish Jig, Miss Pam Churcher; Pianoforte solo, Mrs Goocli; Dance, Mis; K. Walton's Pupils; Solo, Mrs G. Phillips; Dance, Misses Valerie and Nolene Middlemas; Play, "The Fair} Prison" Taneatua school children. Cake competition, lucky numbei Avinner Mrs H. Taylor. / Monthly competition, vase of flowers for effect, Mrs Adams 1, Mrs Sisam 2. After a delicious afternoon tea which had been supplied by mem bers, was served, the meeting closet with the singing of the Nationa Anthem. MANAWAHE MEETING Manawahe Women's Institute lick its monthly meeting on Novembei 6, 13 members being present. Inter est was aroused when it-was mad< knoAvn that the Institute's spinning wheel had arrived. This promises t< be useful with this present shortag< of wool. Being International Day, Mrs Log an and Mrs Edge read an interesting and instructive lecture on China, Final arrangements were discussct for the Paddy's Market. A dainty afternoon tea was scrvec by Mesdames Clancy and Kane. J special effort having been called foi . the sale and patriotic tables did i brisk trade.
