MONTH'S IMPRISONMENT

At the Opotiki Police Court last week, before Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., Eric Power was charged that on October 28 he did without lawful excuse fail to comply with an orden given under the National Service Emergency Regulations, in that having been required by an authorised'; officer by Gazette notice to report at the time and place", failed to do so. Accused pleaded guilty. Sergeant J. Isbister who conducted the case on behalf of the police, stated that defendant belonged to the First Division. When defendant was called up he appealed on conscientious grounds, the appeal later being disallowed. About a month ago defendant was served with an order, but he failed to report at the time and place, and offered no excuse.

Defendant had nothing to say, and was sentenced to one month's im, prisonment, which would be in Mit. Eden gaol for the convenience of the military authorities..
