MARRIED MEN
BALLOT NOT LIKELY BEFORE
NEXT YEAR
SEVERAL MONTHS' NOTICE
Present indications are that a bal* lot for married men, either for territorial or overseas service, will not be necessary before next year. This was indicated by the Minister of National Service, the Hon. R.. Semple, when he was asked if he could give any indication as to when the first ballot for married men for overseas service might take place. Mr Semple said that under normal circumstances it would probably be necessary to take a ballot for. married men toward the end of January or early in February, 1942, but it was too early yet to say when the first Gazette calling up married men for overseas service would be issued. As far as possible married men would be called lip for overseas service about five or six months before they would normally be required to enter camp, so that ample time would be- given to put their affairs in before proceeding overseas. Before any married men. were called up, added the Minister, a thorough review would be made of the cases of all single men whose service had been postponed. "Appeal boards have already commenced reviews at approximately six-monthly intervals," he concluded.
