MEAT PROBLEMS
THE POOLING QUESTION
Members again discussed the proposition that had engaged recent attention, under which a pool would be formed, with the result that one section of the meat producers would be expected to make up losses incurred by other growers. The folloAving resolution was carried:— "This Executive is unalterably opposed to any pooling scheme that entails the loading on to the farmer of any loss that is due to the incidence of war conditions. We call upon the Government to carry out its promise to spread any such loss equitably over the whole community. For the Government to insist upon a-monopoly of export without any regard to responsibility for the purchase of total production, and without regard to the relation of sterling and New Zealand values as they affect the price paid to- the producer, is entirely unjust, and is a gross betraj'al of a special section of the community for the benefit of others." The resolution was sent to the Minister of Marketing and to the Meat Board.
