RIVER DIVERSION
WAIMANA UNDERTAKING
POSITION SATISFACTORY
The Waimana river has now adopted its new course to a hundred per rent extent, flowing through the now widened canal, which was made by the County Council staff. The position was regarded by the council as satisfactory at yesterday's meeting. A letter had been received at yesterday's meeting from Mr G. Kirlcbride which drew the attention of the council to the fact that the Waimana River had been diverted to strike his outlet road. He stated that after a few floods in the river, it would be striking hard on the narrow corner Avliere previous erosion had taken place, and there was now a dangerous margin of only a few feet between the formed road and steep bank. As this was the outlet to which the writer had contributed hundreds of pounds, he suggested that lie meet the Councillors near the Raroa Creek bridge to confer with them about the matter. The Works Committee reported that it had inspected the Waimana river diversion at Mr T. W. Wardlaw's and expressed satisfaction with the work and that in company with Mr Kirkbride, it inspected the portion of road referred to. It was resolved that the approach to the Raroa Bridge be protected by willowing and that the plantation be fenced and that Kirkbride's Road aind the Raroa Bridge be inspected by the Acting-County Engineer during next flood. To Cr H. C. McCready the chairman, Mr J. L. Burnett, stated that as far as could be seen at present there was no erosion, but Mr Kirkbride's fear seemed to be of what might occur. He thought the erosion might work up the stream and iTot down. There was no erosion at present, but a certain amount of protection was to be undertaken.
