A BETTER CHEQUE
WELCOMED BY FARMERS
AND OTHERS
BRf.SK BUSINESS THIS WEEK
Business in Whakatane should brighten considerably this week as Monday will bring the best cheque farmers of the Plains have had for some time, and the September earnings will show a pleasant rise over the returns for August, when not nearly so
many cows were in miilk.
Farmers will welcome- the better return of the first spring month and a joyful clang of cash registers may result in Whakatane, providing, of course, the banks and the Dairy Company have not earmarked the lot. Smiling faces should gleam from behind local counters this week with the "cockies" flush on Monday and sharemilkers in the money a couple of days later.
Business has been quiet lately and a brighter week will remind all that spring is here, summer is coming —likewise so is Christmas.
September was a good month on the farms with production high, and the change from the month of August was marked. Work has been plentiful, and worries of labour and equipment shortage also plentiful, so a more generous supply of cash will not be misplaced.
