CIVIC FUNCTION HELD

TWO MEN HONOURED

There - was a well attended and pleasant gathering at the Borough Council Chambers on Wednesday evening when Sgt. Pilot A. Coutts and L.A.C., N. Brocektt, of the R.N.Z.A.F., were extended a civic farewell.

His Worship the Mayor was the chief speaker and also apologised for the absence of the chairman of the County Council, Mr J. L. Burnett, who was unavoidably absent, but who had asked His Worship to convey his best wishes to the guests. jVTr Barry paid high tribute to the two airmen, and on behalf of the Town and District Farewell Committee made each the recipients of a wallet.

In the absence of the president, Mr K. G. Runciman, Mr McDonald spoke on behalf of the Returned Soldiers'. Association and joined the Mayor in wishing the departing men every success and a safe return. On behalf of the Borough Ladies' Farewell Committee, Mirs W. Sullivan alslo made a short address and a presentation. Sgt. Pilot Coutts replied on his own behalf, while Mr Brockett, who with Mrs Brockett accepted the gift in the absence of their son, also, returned thanks.
