CHEESE DAY AND NIGHT
DOUBLE SHIFT TO COMMENCE
NEW WHAKATANE! FACTORY
Increased daily production of cheese at the new Pupuaruhe cheese factory of the Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Coy will result from the decision made this week to work double shift. The first night shift will probably commence to-day, but if not will definitely be operating- from the week-end.
Thus milk from the Plains, will be converted into cheese both day and night, with milk collections being made twice daily. Since the factory opened at the beginning of this month the lorries have made their tour of milk collection between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., and the evening collection now to be instituted will commenced at about 6 p.m.
The fact that the double shift has been instituted at the factory does not mean that the number of farmers supplying milk has doubled, but that the supply is sufficient to keep the five vats operating for the hours to be worked. Probably half as many again are now on the l milk supply run.
Difficulty is still being experienced with the factory not yet fully equipped and a nymber of farmers being held up owing to the shortage of equipment. A local firm manager yesterday expressed the opinion that all sheds required to change-over would be fitted by Christmas.
