NEW CEMETERY
SITE IN COUNTY
ONLY AVAILABLE LAND
The announcement in last iissue that the Borough Council intended acquiring land on Hillcrest for Whakatane's new cem-
etery caused some alarm amongst residents of that area, who gained the impresteion that the site chosen was bandy to the main residential sections.
This is not so the Council having chosen an area far removed from the actual Hillcrest settlement and the new cemetery will be on Mr Melville's property near the junction of the new and old Oliope roads some miles distant from town.
Exhaustive' tours of inspection were made by the Council before a suitable site was. chosen, many areas being visited and carefully considered, before the conclusion was reached that the site on the Oliope roatl was the only one available.
The Council intends moving to acquire this land, and prepare the new area before the present Domain Road cometery lacks further accommodation. With many plots being reserved it is indicated that two years will find the Domain Road area Avithout further capacity.
