SUPPORT NEEDED

URGENT APPEAL OF PLUNKET SOCIETY

MEETING TOi BE HELD

Urgently requiring support the Whakatane branch of the Plunket Society is making an urgent appeal to women of Whakatane to sfupport the organisation, and the secretary of the committee, Mrs C. C. Soufchey, this week has circularised residents of the Borough with the following letter:—

"I wisli to bring before your notice the present position of the Whakatane branch of the Plunket Society. Notwithstanding the fact that the facilities arc being used with increasing frequency, public support is lacking and in consequence the financial position is deteriorating.

The attendance at the annual meeting was most disappointing, only nine being present, this number including only one member to whom the Nurse gives her services. The present committee consists of only four members. Expenses are rising, nnd it is unreasonable to expect so few to carry the whole burden. Last year strenuous efforts had. to be made to raise sufficient funds: this year the position is even worse, and unless more active support is given, the local branch of the Society must cease, to. function.

Support may be given in several ways, particularly by becoming a member of; the Society and secondly by taking an active part in the Society's financial activities. Outmost urgent need is for committee members. . e The Borough Council has shown Its realisation of our need by donating £20, instead of £5, and we feel that could the committee become Strong enough to organise appeals, the public would generously support them.

This committee intends to hold a public meeting on the 21st October [n the Parish Hall at 2.30 p.m., and Invites you to be present so that full consideration may be given to the question of whether the Society should continue to function."
