OHOPE DOMAIN BOARD'S
DIFFICULTIES
EFFORT TO BEAUTIFY BEACH
The Ohope Domain Board has been forced to admit itself beaten in determined efforts to procure a number of maritime pines, ngaios and other ornamental trees for planting on the reserves facing the beach. The position is that the recently appointed government officer whose duty it is to beautify the streets in the cities where State houses have been built has so thoroughly done his job that there are scarcely any trees left in the nurseries. All stocks were sold, out some months ago and despite the Board's enquiries dating back as far as August, there were no trees available in Auckland, Pukekohe, Rotorua, Wanganui or Palmerston North.
The plan to have the trees established by this summer must therefore be held in abeyance and preparations will be made for planting next autumn.
