RUBBISH DUMP
HARBOUR BOARD'S OFFER
ACCEPTED
DECISION OF BOROUGH COUNCIL
"I think we should accept the Harbour Board's offer," statedl His Worship the Mayor at Mon» day's meeting of the Borough. Council when reporting to the Council on the meeting withi the Board. "The present offer meets the position and in future instead of reclaiming landi solely for the Board's benefit we will be doing so for payment."
His Worship continued that the Council would dump rubbish on a selected site, would have control of the dump and would be required to comply with the minimum health requirements. For the land reclaimed the Harbour Board would pay 4d per cubic yard. Gr J. Creeke asked if the Harbour Board would consider setting aside fln area for car parking purposes and Mr Barry replied: that this might be considered al tlic/ugh not as a permanent measure but only until such time as the Board would lease the land for business premises. However, this could be suggested to the Board as; more parking space was very necesasry. Gr G. G. Caisley suggested that the Board might agree to do so if the Council reclaimed the land without payment.
