INSTITUTE ACTIVITIES

The monthly meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women's institute was held iji the Waimana Hall lasl Wednesday afternoon. There was quite a good attendance of members and visitors. The meeting opened with the singing of the Instituje song and the Ode to Friendship. Mrs Hewitt read the motto for the month.. k Correspondence was dealt with, and delegates for the forthcoming bi-ajinual council meeting, Mrs Gallagher and Mrs Miarra, were elected. The Golden Thread was given by Mrs Gallagher, a letter being read from her son on his experiences in Greece, Avhiph was most interesting. It was decided that each member donate 1/- to the Leper fund. A dance was also arranged to raise funds for Xmas cakes' to be sent to ■soldiers who have left the district. An impromptu debate was also held—"Large families and small families." The debaters for large families were voted the winners. The competitions for the day resulted: Best flower, Mrs I. Savage 1, Mrs T. Ward!aw 2, Mrs' Stevenson "3. Best vegetable, Mrs King 1, Mrs T. Wardlaw 2. Mrs F. Bell 3. Flowers arranged iii earth in a soup plate, Mrs T. Wardlaw 1, Mrs Eagle 2, Miss Wool field 3. Sold i.ers' miltens, Mrs F. Bell J, Miss Woolfiekl 2, Mrs I. Savage 3. One new member was enrolled. A humorous sketch was well presented by Mrs F. Savage and Mrs John Addison.
