IMPORTANT WORK

NEED FOR BETTER RESPONSE

PREPARATION FOR EMERGENCY

Residents in the Whakatane Countj' will possibly remember that a short time ago they were circularised by the E.P.S. Committee with a view to ascertaining facilities for the accommodation of evacuees in the event of an emergency. Probably all will recall the circular although while some will remember furnishing the details, others will be puzzledl as to whether they lest it or consigned it to the fire. The importance of collecting this Information was stressed by) tlie District Controller, Mr J. L. Burnett, on Wednesday, when he complimented the Edgecumbe district on having its information in this respect up-to-date. Mr Burnett continued that it appeared that the only successful method of obtaining the information was to make a house to house canvas and collect the forms when completed. Mr D. W. Spence, Warden for the Edgecumbe area, explained that he and his committee had adopted such a scheme with the result that all questionnaires had been collected, and it was decided by the meeting that wardens make visits, to residents in each area where the information is incomplete and have this in readiness for the central committee within one month.
