DANCE AT MATATA

MANY FANCY COSTUMES

The Red Cross fancy dress dance held in Matata on August 21st was a huge success. The duties of M.C. were carricd out by Mr Frascr and Mr Kinley. The music was supplied by the Gaiety Boys' Band and was enjoyed immensely.

The Spot Waltz was won by N. Fraser and partner, while the winners of the Monte Carlo were Miss B. Ansell and A. Elliott. Those Who won prizes for fancy costumes were: Best Lady and Gentleman, Mr and Mrs Naumann as Spanish Senorita and Spanish Don. Special prize, Mrs Withy as Grandma and Miss Dive as Golliwog. The Hard-up prize was won by Mrs Cummings in a complete frock made of scrim. Miss Burt was. also in a very "hard-up" costume. Some others in fancy costume were.: Mi. Savage, Hula girl; B. Ansell, Spanish dancer; M. Ainderson, Hula girl; A. Ansell, Clark Gable; M. Joyce, steward; Mrs Ansell, New Zealand goods; Mrs H. Burt, nigh J; Mrs Withy, Wee Willie Winkle; Mrs Mahia and partner as Maori man and maiden. A : delugeo 1' coins fell on to the Union Jack held by four junior Re"«s Cross girls, while the Maori members were singing the appropriate song "Once again we asilc for 2/6 for our heroes far away."
