Grove Klemincr, of the University of California, registered the greatesf-quarter-mile performance by a college student in track history when he equalled Ben Eastman's world rc•ord of 46.4s at the annual Pacific Coast Conference at Berkeley.
Running a typical Eastman rac<\ Klemmer forged to the front before the freld had travelled oftyds, and from then on to the finish was not even seriously threatened. He ran the first 200 yards in 22.75, and the second in 23.75, and his brilliantly sustained drive over the last 150 yards was a wonderful athletic treat. Of the three official watches, one caught him in 46.35, the second in lu.?s plus, and the third in 4(j.45.
