PATRIOTIC AFFAIRS

WAIMANA ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting and election of the Waimana Patriotic Committee was held recently in the Waimana Hall. There was only a small gathering of the public. The past year had been quite successful, the Waimana quota for Patriotic funds was raised and the chairman thanked Mrs Wyldei (secretary) for her good work and special thanks to tinmembers of the Waimana-Nukuhou Women's Institute for their great 'help. The report and balance sheet were presented and adopted. The ef.lection of the committee followed.'—Chairman, Mr R. Wardlaw; Secretary, Mirs C. Wylde; Committee, Mr anrl Mrs T. Wardlaw, Mr and Mrs' M. King, Mr and Mrs Mitchell, Mrs W. McConneßl, Mrs Woolfield, Mrs Cranswick, Mr N\, Macdonald, Mr Gallagher, Mr K. Bell, Mr A. Boynton, Mr W. Addison; Native Representative, Mr J. Boynton. The contents of the Provincial balance sheet were discussed, and the meeting Registered an emphatic protest against spending money collected by Patriotic Committees, on comforts for Territorial and troops in training while in this country (£551 being spent on cigarettes and p.pples for Territorials' while on manoeuvres in North Auckland) . Mrs Wylde was appointed delegate to attend the Zone meetings, and a vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting.
