Mr W. Crisp, who for some tinm lias been at Te Arolii, has returned to manage the local theatres for a short time. A farewell was tendered at Opotiki on Monday last to Constable W. R. Cooper, who has been transferred on promotion to take charge of the Tokomaru Bay station. Residents of the Waiotahi'district recently gathered to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Wm. Jeffrey, who are leaving that district afteir a residence of 27 years. Mrs J. I>odds, of the Heads, ha?* received a cable from Bishop Gerrard, Chaplain to the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force stating that he personally conducted Si funeral service over her late son, Private Harold Dodd. He also intimated that he had collected his personal belongings which Avould be forwarded to Mrs Dodds. Another member of the 28th Maori Battalion who was killed in action in Crete on May 23, was Pte. Christie Rolleston, of Maketu. Deceases Avas a great-grandson of Chief Hori Tupaea, of Tauranga, and: also a grand-grandson of Hans Phillip Tapsell, of Maketu. He was a ker«i» sportsman and athlete, and was well known in the, Bay of Plenty. He was educated at the Maketu School j'lic l at Si. Peter's College, Northcote. He enlisted at ths oatbreak of war ond went overseas with Ihe first Maori Battalion la England. From there he went to Egypt, Greece and Crete. There are two brothers 'serving overseas, Sapper G. Ilolleston and Private P. Rcileston.
