BOWLING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING enjoyable; smoko follows The annual general meeting and social evening of the Whakatane Bowling Club was held at the Winter Show Building on Saturday evening. Following the presentation of the balances sheet and report (which appears on another page) the election of officers and a small amount of general business, the evening was occupied with a social gathering at which a number of guests were present and during the course of which a number of toasts and items were, enjoyed. Election of Officers. The election of officers resuited as follows, the last season's president, Mr S. McLeod, retiring from the office although asked to stand once again. Mir R. F. Smith was elected unopposed, Mr L. Littlejohn refusing nomination. Tribute was* paid to the excellent work done by the retiring president, and on assuming the chair Mr Smith stated that he hoped that the affairs of the Club would continue to flourish and that he would receive the same measure of support from the members as the retiring president had done. Vice-President: Mr W. S. Henderson. Secretary and Treasurer: Mr H. L. Drube (re-elected). Committee: Messrs A. C. Chambers, J. J. Healy, C. Loane, C. Pearson and J. J. Francis. The appointment of an auditor was left to the committee while a similar decision was made in respect to the delegates to the Centre* Green Superintendent: Mr Healy. Selector and Handicapper: Mr Mo Leod. Coach: JVfir W. S. Sloane. Trophy Winners. During the evening trophies won during the season Avere presented by the retiring president. These were won as follows:— Handicap Singles and Junior Championship: Mr G. Oswald. Handicap Pairs!: Messrs W., Baxter and L. Berg. Championship Pairs; Messrs W. G. Howat and L. Littlejohn. Hayter Trophy. Club Champion: Mr H. Baxter.
