fracas on Train ONE MAN GOALED FOR TWO MONTHS A fracas in which something like 40 Maoris are said to have participated occurred on the Taneatua express last Saturday; evening, and re-* suited in the appearance <if one of the number in the. Te Puke Police Court. He was Daniel Te Moni, alias Daniel Raniera Te Moni, and , he pleaded guilty to charges of resisting arrest, using obscene language, drunkenness and failing to present his railway ticket when requested to do so. On each of the first two charges he was sentenced to a month's imprisonment, the sentences; to be cumulative, and on the other two counts he was convicted and dis 1 - charged. It was explained by Constable G. Roberts, of Te Puke, that accused was arrested folio-vying a disturbance on the train in which approximately 40 Maoris participated. Drink, appeared to be the- causei of the trouble. He stated that he had received information that the Maoris were supplied by Europeans who were making a practice of purchasing it for them. There appeared to be an arrangement whereby the liquor was rushed from a ho>tel in Tauranga to the* railway station on the Strand just as the train was about to leave.
