WAIMANA ACTIVITIES

GARDENING CIRCLE The monthly meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Wcmenjs Institute gardening circle was held at Mi*s John Addison's home, Waimana. Mrs Mannion read the minutes of the previous meeting, whfch was followed by interesting readings by Mrs Woolfiekl. Mrs Hughes explained how to prune roses. A Avail competition arranged by Mrs Addison was won by Miss M. Hughes and Mrs King. The day's competitions were as folloAVS: Best flower, Mrs Woolfiekl (Camelia) 1, Mrs Hughes (Geranium) 2, Mi's Eagle (Jonquil) 3. Best vegetable, Mrs Hughes (Leek) 1, Mrs Eagle 2, Mrs King 3. Bowl of autumn leaves and berries. Mrs Eagle 1, Mrs Woolfiekl 2. The next meeting will be held at Mrs Hughes' home. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs King and Miss M. Hughes, after which Mrs Addison thanked Mrs Pye and Mrs McConnell for acting as judges, and a hearty! vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Addison for the pleasing afternoon spent by all.

GOLF CLUB OPENING DAY The Waimana Golf Club held lis opening day recently, and there was a very good attendance of members and visitors, who enjoyed a good afternoon's golf. The president, Mr L. Ducker, weilcomed all present, before a four-ball best-ball .'competition commenced, which was won by Mrs King and Mr Doran. SUCCESSFUL DANCE ' A most successful dance was held by the Waimana Football Club last Thursday evening, the proceeds to be divided between the Home Guard and the W.W.S.A. Dick Boynton's orchestra played splendid music for dancing and extras were given by Mr M.. Burke and Mr A. Wardlaw. Mr H. Wardlaw made/ a most efficient M.C. s A leg of mutton, donated by Mr fc V. Miller for competition, was won by Mr W. Addison, and another competitipn was won by Mrs Henderson. The Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Mr Eagle and Mrs King and Mr T. Hay ward and Miss H. Boynton. A dainty supper was served and dancing continued until a late hour. Among those present were Mesdames H. Wardlaw, A. K. Bell, L. Ducker, S. McConnell, R. Henderson, P. Looncy, M. Mannion, 7. Gallagher, F. Belli, B. Hughes, C. White, W. Addison, H. Bell, I. Savage, J. Stirling, J. Boynton. Misses S. G rover, B. Saxe, M. Hughes, B. Bell, J. McConnell, B. Wragge, H. Boynton, M. and F. Woolficld, K. and E. Doran, E. and S. Addison, E-. Wardlaw, R. Hughes, Elsie Addison, E. Merrie (Taneatun) S. Symmans (Taneatua), B. Crapp (Opotiki), Kelly, R. Maedonald.
