REPORTED MISSING
FURTHER LOCAL MEN The following men of the Whakatane and 1 Opotiki districts have been reported missing :— Cpl. Winstone Daniel! (Opotiki) Pte N. M. Elliott (Opotiki) Sergeant D. Hawkins (Opotiki) Pte W. Fountain (Te Puke) Pte J. C. Mann (Maketu) Pte H. J. Foote (Whakatane) L/Cpl P. M. Smith (Ofpotikij) Pte I. J. Serjeant (Opotiki) Pte Hugh Eric Frew (Taneatua) Pte H. W. Mexted (Whakatane) L/Cpl Leslie Young Pte Y. O. Wilkins (Te Puke) REPORTED SAFE GM. SGT. CON SAINTEY has been received by Mrs W< Sharkey that her nephew, Qmt'r. Sgt.. Con Saintey is safe and well. The cablegram, arrived on Wednesday and as the sender was Quartermaster to Major Le Lievre, it is thought highly probable that others of this 1 battalion will also have made their escape. Pte. Joe Saintey, a brother, has been posted as missing.
