His mother was Mrs Tv. Armstrong who resided at the Railway Settlement, Awakeri, while his brother, T'etl Ryan, was a wellknown Awakeri footballer, and a noted amateur Cyclist. Lieut. Ryan lived in Whakatane for four years, a boy, and will doubtless be remembered by many of his .old schoolmates.
