OHOPE SWIMMING BATH

NEW SITE SANCTIONED

ANOTHER £100 NEEDED

At a meeting of the Oh ope Domain Board held on Wednesday the new site selected for the, children's swimming bath was sanctioned. This will, lie l on the north side of the main picnic: ground. Mr F. Mahy reported to the Board that to. date h<* had collected £246. £35 of which he had paidi out for piping Avhich Avas now on the job. He anticipated that a further £100 Would be required to completei the bath, and lie 1 sought permission to organise public entertainments to be held on the beach to raisn the necessary money. Continuing Mir Mahy stated that the fact that over 1000 people had contributed towards the fund for the bath signified that the wool was not only appreciated but needed from a public point of vieAV for the teaching of young children to* swim. The chairman, Mr H. G. McCready congratulated Mr Mahy on his enterurisie and- also on the broadness of his ideas in giving a lead' to the towns-people Avho were mainly responsible for the early criticism of the project. His gesture in donating £5 toAvards building bathsi at the school indicated that he had a genuine interest in the movement for teaching all young children the art of SAvimming.
