NEW MEETING-HOUSE
CEREMONY AT MATATA LARGE ATTENDANCE PRESENT At Matata on Saturday over 1000 were in attendance for the occasion of the official opening of the new dining hall, Rakauhelcpara, and the unveiling of the two memorial flagstaffs. The Bishop of Aotearoa, the Rt. Rev. F, A. Bennett, performed the opening ceremonies, before representatives from Rotorua and as far south as Wanganui and the Taranaki districts. It was a gathering that Avill long be remembered by those Avho Avere present. Adjacent to the dining hall is the meeting-house called Rangiaohia; the significance being that Rangiaohia was the husband of Rakauheketara. The flagpoles are both of carved design to the memory of learned Maori scholars, and particularly unusual, is that dedicated to Raimona Heretaunga, as it takes the form of eight carved heads so arranged as to represent the A-arious generations. The other carved flagpole is a tribute to Ravreti Mokonuiarangi.
