MAKE IT TRUE
REMARKABLE VISION
"The time will come, when thou shalt lift thine ej r es, To watch a long-drawn battle in the skies, While aged peasants, too amazed for words, Stare at the flying fleets of wond'rous birds, England, so long mistress of the sea, Where wind and waves confess her sovereignty, Her ancient triumphs yet on high shall bear And reign, the sovereign of the conquered air." (Translated from Gray's "Luna Habitabilis," Cambridge, 1737). Just two hundred years ago this remarkable vision of the war in the air was written down in Latin verse by the great English poet who composed the famous "Elegy."
