SERVICE MADE COMPULSORY

DECISION OF GOVERNMENT

Captain .T. W. Wilson, officer in command of the local com-

puny of territorials has received advice from the Government that in future all training prescribed for territorials will be compulsory and absence without leave will be punishable under the Er/iJkency Regulations. This declaration of the Government has been intimated to the members of the local company and the fullest co-opcration of employers is sought. Yesterday's Parade. B Company territorials paraded .it Whakatanc 3 r estordaj T under the com mand of Major Hausler, about 70 being present from Tauranga, Te Puke, Opotiki and Whakatanc. The morning was devoted to aiming instruction, service targets being used, while in the afternoon training with a Lewis gun was the order.

Opportunity was taken during the day to bid farewell to eight members of the Company who are transferred to the 2nd N.Z.E.F., and amongst the officers present were Captain C. H. Adams, of Tuuranga, who had with him Second Lieutenants Johnstone, Ross and Clarke.

Mobilisation plans were furthered, telephone numbers, and other necessary information such as railway facilities being sought, so that the company could be expeditiously moved in the event of an emergency.
