ACCIDENT SEQUEL
DRIVER OF CAR CHARGED! COLLISION AT KUTARERE DetaHs of the collision at Ivuta-> rxere on June 12 of last year were heard at the Opotiki Police C<fa ; rt on Wednesday, when Harold John Clayton faced a chargc of negligently driving a motor car on the O'po-tiki-Taneatua main highway and therefore causing bodily injury to Frederick Whitewood. The charge arose out of an accident in which a boy was seriously injured in June, 1940, and since which time he has been in hospital, having lost one leg through amputation. The case was one of the longest heard in Opotiki for some time, occupying most of the day. Messrs G. S. Moody and C. Pipe occupied the bench. Accused pleaded not guilty to the • charge. After the lengthy hearing accused was committed to the Supreme Court at Gisborne for trial. Accused -was admitted to bail on his own -recognisance for the sum of £50.
