PUBLIC WORKS FOR EXSERVICEMEN VIEWS OF COUNTY COUNCIL "I 1 think that Public Works are degrading aiid it would be an insult to the men," stated the chairman of the County Council* Mr J. L. Burnett, on Tuesday l when addressing the County Council on post-war work for ex-servicemen. "Sucli work would not be in the best interests of the men and should not be encouraged and Ave should be able to find room for them in Industry." A communication had been received from the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council drawing attention to a decision of the Council that each member should, give objective consideration to the question of post war work foif ex-servicemen. Where members held-.-local body office it was requested that they incorporate in their reports & schedule of likely public works upon which ex-service-men could be absorbed. In accordance with the chairman's views it was recommended that failing existing industry being unable to be organised to re-absorb returning men- the council, as a last resort, would consider the I Provincial Council's suggestion.
