HOME GUARD
HEADQUARTERS EXPENSES
NO CONTRIBUTION FROM COUNTY
When the Whakatane County Council together with other local bodies in the No. 2A Area was asked last month to contribute to the cost of establishing headquarters at Rotorua it was decided that further information be obtained as to ihe personnel of the Home Guard Committee controlling the area, on whose authority the allocations had been adjusted and- asking for a copy of minutes of meetings held.
One account was noted in the council's queries and items included in this requested.
The information desired was not
given in a reply received at yesterday's meeting which stated that the Mayor of Rotorua had considered that all local bodies within the area should contribute as the Roloma Borough and County Councils financed the Home Guard Committees' activities in that town apart from headquarters. The letter stated that the meeting at which the allocations" had been made was of the Rotorua Borough and County Home Guard Executive. The frauds asked for were for expenditure up to March 31, and it was intended to call a meeting of all bodies concerned before any further expense was undertaken.
Members of the council considered that as each local body had its local Guard expenses to meet then the establishment of headquarters at "Rotorua should be the liability move of public bodies in that centre, if not of the War Expenses Account.
The Finance Committee's recommendation was adopted, this reading "That this County is assisting in financing the cost of the local Home Guard Committee J*nd is of the opinion that the cost of the Area Headquarters should be a charge on the War Expenses Account."
