MESSAGES FROM OVERSEAS' LETTER FROM MAJOR-GENERAL FREYBERG At yesterday's meeting of the Whalcatane County Council a pleasant interlude took place when the clerk, Mr C. G. Lucas, announced that he had just received a letter from Major-Generai B. G. Freyberg, who is Officer in Command of the Secondi New Zealand; Expeditionary Force overseas.

In' his letter Major-General Freyberg stated: "Many thanks for your Christmas greetings to me and all the> men of the second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. The many messages received from all parts of New Zealand have been deeply appreciated and the men from your district! will be particularly pleased to read your message when published in Orders. In addition may I send to you all my personal good wishes for 1941.'*

Comforts Committee Thanked.

In the same mail a letter was received from Norman Patterson of the Middle East Forces, who - turned thanks for parcels reveived from the Whalcalane Comforts Committee. He stated on behalf of the "boys" the appreciation of the very welcome parcels and extended good wishes to all.
