With the recent introduction of the George Cross, awarded to both civilians and the Fighting Services for brave deeds, one of the sources of confusion with the 0.8. E. has grine. Its previous counterpart, th? Medal of the Order of the British Empire for Gallantry—the E.G.M. - was frequently referred to, incorrectly, as the "0.8. K." The remaining classes of the Order of the British Empire remain. They are: — Knight (or Dame) Grand Gross, G.8.E.; Knight (or Dame) Commander, K.R.E, (or D.B.E); Commander, C.B.EL; Officer, 0.8. E.; Member, M.B.E* Each of these classes- has a Military Division, to which members of the Fighting Services m;vv be appointed. Tn addition, there is the of tlie Order of the Brit'S-i Empire for Meritorious Service which lias nfo official abbrovialio.i.
