brisk business experienced •CROWDS IN WHAKATANE Brisk business has been experienced by the retailers of Whakatane ,-jis the Christmas shopping nears its peak. Exceptionally large l crowds were the order on Friday and again -on Saturday morning and though it is anticipated that there may be -some slight slackening to-day it is -expected that Christmas Eve, tomorrow, • will see an intensification •of buying. v A shortage in some lines" is reported but generally stocks are good. Selection in gift lines is naturally more limited than last year but on the whole shoppers fare well and •shopkeepers tire confident that trading will prove satisfactory.
