RANGITAIKI BOYS AND GIRLS CALF CLUB
VALUE OF CLUB'S ACTIVITIES
A of the Rangitaiki Boys and Girls Calf Club was held in the. Awakeri Schoolroom on Thursday, December 12. Present: Messrs H., J, Ryde (chairman), Butler (Te Telto), Hedgley and Bryant (Otakiri), N. J. C. Macdonald (Nukuhou), Bell (Waimana), A. Prince (Opouriao), E. Till (Taneatua) and Kerr (secretary, Awakeri).
The principal business was the reception of the judging results and the awarding of prizes to the sue-* cessful competitors in the Club's Calf Rearing competitions "foi* the .year 1940. The members of the club
were unanimous in expressing their thanks to the judges, Messrs N. Carter and R. Fleming, for their services to the club over a, period of years, and considered that the success of the club was due in a measure to the interest they had taken in judging the various conv petitions, and to their advice to the children regarding the selection of a calf of good dairy type. At each centre where judging had taken place, instructive demonstrations had been given by the judges, which were highly appreciated'by the com petitors.
A marked feature of the competitions was the noticeable improvement that had taken place during past years in the type o£ calf presented and the evidence of -careful rearing and handling. The knowledgel gained by the children from the competitions, and the care of animals inculcated in them, should' prove of inestimable value to them in after life.
A vote of thanks to Messrs J. Bryant and King of Otakiri,, for their services in judging at Manawalie and Matata, was also passed. The secretary-reported that there had been 182 entries in the competitions- and that the judge's awards were as follows: —
