DETAILS OF PROCEEDINGS
At a further meeting of the New Year Carnival Committee the programme of events fox* New Year's Eve was fully discussed. Excellent progress has been made by the committee conveners and the collectors reported that the street canvass had realised no less than £50. In connection with the events the following items were agreed upon: 2 p.m. Children's procession to Square. 3 p.m. Dancing exhibitions and displays. Lollie scrambles, etc. 7.30 till 9.30 p.m. Street enter-, tainment by groups on lorries and on foot.
10 p.m. Grand procession headed by bands. In the main street for approximately an hour. 11 p.m. Presentation of prizes. 12 (midnight). Demonstration to welcome in New Year.. Immediately after, midnight ball opens. Though there are likely to be amendments, it is understood that the above routine will be broadly observed and -perhaps added to as the committee proceeds with its work. The feature of the gathering will be the decorated vehicle parade for which the following prizes are offered:— Best lorry £10 Ist prize, £5 second Best car £1 JOs Ist prize, £5 second Best original £5. Most eccentric £5. Best native car £5. Besides the above numerous prizes will be given for the children's competitions. There will be a windowSpotting competition, and a 'Mystery Man' competition and numerous other features. The whole trend appears to be definitely along the right lines and if the same spirit of enthusiasm prevails as it is now there can be no question of the outcome of the event
