RAFFLE DRAWN
FIRST PRIZE TO WAIMANA TANEATUA'S SECOND HELPING The drawing of the Runnerstrum Raffle, interest in which had been sharpened by the unavoidable delay occasioned by the failure of one district to return books, took place on Wednesday afternoon in the County Chambers. The actual drawing was performed by Miss M. Bullard, of the County Council staff, conduct of the operation being, in the hands of Mr C. G. Lucas. County Clerk, with His Worship the Mayor, Mr B. S. ■ Barry, "'witnessing, and police officers exercisilng supervision.
The first group of figures drawn represented an unsold ticket from a Taneatua book bu-t tlia three following draws represented tickets sold. The first, No., 53969, is held by Mrs W. Hiko, of Waimana, who thus won the refrigerator; the second, No. 6535, was sold to Mr Fred Bluett, of Taneatua, the prize being an 8-valve Gulbransen radio; and the third, No. 200, is held by Mrs D. Sumner, Wliakatane,. who takes the third prize, £10. The raffle resulted in' a realisation ofi £501 and this result, a credit to those responsible for the org-anisation-—particularly the honorary secretary of the Inter-Zone Patriotic Committee, Mr C. G. Lucas— and the various committees and individual sellers, should be gratifying to the donor of the valuable prizes, Mr E. Runnerstrum, of Ohope.
