RUNNERSTRUM RAFFLE
DRAWING TO-DAY
APPROXIMATELY £500 REALISED
The executive of the Whakatane County and Borough In-ter-Zone Patriotic Committee met on Friday afternoon, with Mr B. S. Barry occupying the chair in the absence of Mr J. L. Burnett. The purpose of the meeting was principally to finalise matters regarding the Runnerstrum Raffle. In a statement of receipts the honorary secretary reported that ' the raffle had realised £496 14s—the objective being £500—and' Mr Lucas also advised that providring certain tickets butts had been returned the drawing would take place this afternoon (Monday). Should the drawing be completed* this afte'rnoon the results will be announced at the Revue to be staged in the Grand Theatre this evening.
The executive decided that the drawing, which will be under police supervision, should be done with numbered marbles. A committee comprising Messrs B. S. Barry, F.
W. K. Raymond, J. H. Ryde and C. G. Lucas will conduct the draw. Persons wishing it may be present.
"All committees are to be congratulated on result achieved and for the very excellent manner in which they have kept their records," stated Mr Lucas. Committees were requested to advise the name of the person who sold the greatest number of tickets and advice was received from five committees as follows: — Ruatahuna Committee, T. Soloman, 180 tickets. Te Teko Committee, Pipi Schooner, 80 tickets., P. Fenton 80 tickets. Wlia'katane Borough Committee, N. A. W. Carter, 200 tickets. Taneatua Committee, H. C. Alexander, 360 tickets. Waimana Committee, Mrs C. Wylde, 365 tickets. The £3 3s prize donated by Messrs D. McL. Wallace Ltd., for the individual selling the most tickets, was thus secured by Mrs C. Wylde and the award was confirmed by the executive.
