SHOWMEN'S LICENSES
BARRING THE "STRONG WORKER" LOCAL BODIES TO BE APPROACHED In a communication to the secretary oft the Whakatane and Rangitaiki A., and P. Association, the secretary of the Northern District Council of the Royal Agricultural Society advised that at the council's last meeting the subject of "Town Showing" by itinerant showmen was discussed and it was resolved that all affiliated associations should be asked to approach their respective local bodies with a request that the local by-laws be amended so-that only licensed showmen may operate under their jurisdiction. It was suggested ihat the local bodies be advised that the Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand was now issuing licenses to approved persons to carry on sidje-' shows and games. In the terms of the license all money games are' barred, and this prevents what is known as the 'strong worker' 1 from operating. "We have approached the New Zealand Municipal Conference, and it has suggested that the respective local bodies be approached directly on the matter," the letter concludes.
