COMING OF AGE PARTY MISS MERYL GROVEIR HONOURED A. most pleasant time was spent at the home of Mr and Mrs D. Grover recently, when their daughter Meryl celebrated her 21st birthday. < A dinner party was followed by Hag 500 and music and singing. All present had a most jolly time. The winners of the cards were Mr tv,nc? Mrs T. Burke, Mrs M. King and Mr R„ White. Mrs Burke and Mr M. Burke rendered delightful vocal items. A most delicious savoury supper was served and Ih© birthday cake was most attractive, the top decoration being a crinoline lady in shades of pink, green and white, and 21 little kewpies decoratcd the lower tier.. The usual toasts were honoured, including the Army, Navy and Air Force. The guest of honour received many beautiful gifts including a gold wristlet watch from her parents < a posy from Mrs Eagle and a shoulder spray from Mrs Woolfield. Miss Grover thanked all for the gifts and also her parents for the delightful party. Those present were: Mr and Mrs Grover, Mr and Mrs M. King, Mr and Mrs J. W'ardlaw, Mr and Mrs T. Burke, Mr and Mrs L. Ducker, Mrs Henderson,' Mrs McN'eil. Misses M. Grover, S. Grover, J. Grover, M. Woolfield, Mavis Wardlaw, S. Addison, Ettye Addison, J. McConnell, Betty Wragge, P. McCon nell, B. NOVELTY DANCE BACK TO CHILDHOOD The dance held recently in the Waimana Hall for the benefit of Patriotic funds Avas quite a success financially. The dance music was given voluntary by Mr and Mrs King and the extras were'played by Mr Malcolm Burke, Miss M. Wardlaiv and Miss J. McConnell. Mr H. Wardlaw, acted as M.iC. and Mr R. Morton was doorkeeper. - The Monte Carlo Waltz was won by Miss M. Spanhake and Mr H. Croft. The "Lucky Gay Gordons" was won by Miss J. McConnell Mrs J. Wardlaw, Mr C. Wylde and Mr F. Burke. A box of chocolates for competition went to Mrs Grovcr. There were not as many as usual in costume, but chose who did come in costume were very good. A dainty home-made supper was served by members of the dance com mittee., Those in costume were: Mrs Ducker, Mrs 1. Savage, Mrs J. Wardlaw, Mrs A. K. Bell, Mr L. Ducker (School Girl), and Mr A .K. Bell; (School Girl), Misses B. Wragge, J. McConnell, M. Wardlaw. Others present Avore: Mcsdames R. Henderson, H. Croft, C. Hampton, F. Bell, H. WardlaAV, R. Spanhake, J. Ruff, 13. Hughes, J.
